Oh, what a peculiar world we live in!
Which conspiracy are you referring to?
Whether you feel that the current flu pandemic is a bioterrorism plot enacted through a conspiracy of governments and pharmaceutical corporations—or not—the way in which governments are reacting to the journalist Jane Burgermeister's charges are at the very least extremely interesting. There seems, for example, to be a huge effort to twist, sensationalise and corrupt even Ms Burgermeister’s own communications, let alone her allegations about deliberate plots to have us all get sick or die from swine flu. For the record, she has completely distanced herself from a raft of internet gossip that has suggested that Michael Jackson’s death was the result of a high-tech electromagnetic weapon attack designed to stop him funding Ms Burgermeister’s legal actions.
Is compulsory vaccination for you?
And how do you feel about compulsory vaccinations? At the ANH, we are 100% opposed because we feel that everyone should have the right to choose vaccination—or otherwise. And it seems we are far from being alone with this view (see ANH Vaccine Choice campaign). If you feel strongly, you might want to sign the Universal Declaration of Resistance to Mandatory Vaccinations petition.
This is the comment Rob Verkerk of the ANH made when he signed the petition:
Freedom of choice is paramount, particularly given that people may choose non-vaccine strategies such as social distancing and immune system enhancement with natural products. People have every right to be concerned about the vaccine given its rapid development and lack of (adequate) testing. We the people must be allowed to make our own risk/benefit decisions (not only for us but also for our children) and not allow governments to make these decisions for us.
‘Swine flu’ continues to make headlines in the press given the escalating number of cases and concerns about the rigour and value of ‘trials’ for the vaccine before its massive rollout. The UK government’s strategy has come under fire since the launch of its “National Pandemic Flu Service” website which offers the public a chance to ‘self-diagnose’.

In other news, rabidly anti-Complementary & Alternative Medicine journalist and physicist Simon Singh has been in Australia presenting the conclusions of his (and Prof Edzard Ernst's) book “Trick or Treatment:Alternative Medicine on Trial”. Although offering a special price for ‘skeptics’, attendance was not quite what we imagine Dr Singh anticipated, as only a meagre 44 attended his Sydney talk.
Staying with news in Australia, Dr Robert Verkerk is due to speak at the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) on 10 August 2009. In his presentation (Moving Beyond the Existing ‘Evidenced-Based Medicine’ Paradigm), Dr Verkerk will evaluate the methodologies that underpin anti-natural health viewpoints emanating from skeptic elements linked to orthodox, pharmaceutical-based medicine. In particular he will reference a group of highly influential UK doctors, academics and journalists.
