ANH News: aspartame disgrace, GM vaccines for teenage girls…and much more

9th June 2009

The madness of some of the policies facing half a billion Europeans is crystallised in the news we bring you in today’s eBlast. If you don’t live in Europe, this doesn’t mean you’ll escape. We live in an increasingly globalised world and the European and US agendas provide the templates being pushed into every corner of the globe.

ANH’s unique melding of science, medicine and law gives you a perspective you can rely on. This information is vital if we are to resist the pressures of the small number of governments and corporations that are seeking to dictate global policy and control; control over us, our food, our healthcare systems, and of course, our political systems.

In short…

Check out below our story on how the European Food Safety Authority has ignored key evidence on the cancer risks of aspartame to keep step with the FDA in the USA, again claiming the artificial sweetener aspartame is safe; to the potential for compulsory MMR vaccination in the UK because parents have dared to exercise their freedom of choice; to the shameless peddling of the first GM vaccine to young teenage girls with no hard evidence for effectiveness, and; to a European election in which the 43% of the European electorate who chose to vote may well have registered their disenchantment with the European agenda.

It’s a mad, topsy-turvy, upside-down world at the moment, but it feels good that there are so many of us (and the numbers are growing daily) who are able to look at the flip-side of the paradigm and see how we might work together to make a better place for future generations.  Despite government and corporate brainwashing to the contrary, more and more people are showing that they recognise nature knows best and it’s through our reconnection with nature that we will ultimately find the answers.

Swine flu update
The media have had difficulty sustaining the hype on swine flu as the death rate declines significantly compared with the spread of the virus. We have uploaded on the ANH website an article by Rob Verkerk to be published this week in Caduceus magazine in the UK. The article, entitled “Swine Flu: how proportionate is the pandemic response?” shows how the drug and vaccine companies have used the WHO’s pandemic rating scale to profit at our expense.

European Parliament Elections 2009
Then there’s the European Parliamentary elections which took place between the 4th and 7th June.  With the worst turn out ever in those countries where voting is voluntary it seems a message has been sent to Brussels that the EU ‘experiment’ may not be working as planned.  Big losses in Socialist seats and gains in seats held by largely anti-EU independents tell the story.  Chicago-born Irish MEP Cathy Sinnott, who worked closely with ANH and other health and environmental groups, will be sorely missed, while we were thrilled to see another Irish MEP, Marian Harkin, who is supporting ANH petitions in the European Parliament, maintain her seat.

Bye-bye Liz, welcome Sophie!
We’d like to extend our thanks and best wishes to Liz Davies who has just left us after being our Campaign Administrator over the last six months. Liz has left her mark on the office, with her keen organisational skills and through her passionate networking which has led to new links being formed between ourselves and like-minded others around the world. Thank you Liz for you passion and support. Liz has been replaced by Sophie Middleton.

Sophie comes to us with a background in human and equine sports massage therapy. She is blessed with excellent office and computer skills and has stepped into the role like it was made for her!  You can already see the fruits of her labours on the website (including in the aspartame story on which she collaborated with Rob Verkerk).  If you email the main ANH address at info@anhcampaign.org, Sophie will be the first port of call.  You’re also likely to reach Sophie if you call in on our main number (+44 (0)1306 646 600).  And here we all are - the ANH Core Team.

ANH supporters on Facebook
For Facebook fanatics, we’re happy to announce the establishment of an ANH supporters group. The group is run solely by supporters of the ANH and is completely independent of us.  As of today it has 516 members but it’s growing rapidly.  It’s a great vehicle for the exchange of information on these key issues, so if you’ve got a Facebook account, think about joining and telling your friends.

Can you help?
Finally, we want to thank all of you, both individuals and companies, who’ve made recent donations.  Your donations are hugely appreciated and represent our sole source of funding.  We are keen to again build a ‘war chest’ to allow us to mount a legal challenge.  Hot candidates for challenge are the soon-to-be-implemented maximum levels for vitamin and mineral food supplements in the EU, gross restrictions on freedom of speech (and education) associated with new European health claims laws that will come into place over the next year or so, and the mass impact against traditional herbal medicinal cultures caused by the new fast-track drug licensing system in the Europe that will come fully into force in April 2011.

Our funding is tightly and transparently managed by our Financial and Administrative Director, Paul Harris, so anyone wishing to make a substantial donation may want to liaise directly with Paul (please contact via info@anhcampaign.org).
